Why I’m No Longer Afraid of AI (And You Shouldn’t Be Either)

“AI will only become a problem in society when we humans can’t ask the question why.”

That line hit me like a tuning fork. It’s what kicked off this whole thought stream you’re about to read.

Recently, I upgraded to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, and I’m just going to say it: best 20 bucks I’ve ever spent. No contest. It’s already saved me well over a thousand dollars in legal fees alone, helped me streamline my business paperwork, and—most importantly—saved me time, which is the one resource I can’t make more of.

But here’s what really clicked: this tool I’ve dubbed “3PO” (my personal AI assistant) isn’t just a timesaver. It’s a creative partner. It’s the intern I never had, the assistant I couldn’t afford, and the editor that doesn’t need sleep.

And yeah, sometimes it’s off the mark. I’ve had it give me editing advice on my writing that was totally out of sync with my tone. But I tell it—just like I’d tell a real intern—“Nope. Off the mark. Try again.” And it listens. It adjusts. It learns.

Tools Have Always Evolved. So Should We.

I’ve been in media and production for over 30 years. When I started in radio, I was cutting analog tape with a razor blade—literally. You want to talk about labor-intensive editing? That was it. Then came computers. Then came nonlinear editing. And guess what? I fought it at first. Kicked and screamed like everybody else.

But once I embraced the change, the work got better. Sharper. More creative. Not because I lost something—but because I gained freedom from time restrictions and resource constraints. That shift turned me into a one-man production house. And AI is doing that again.

So I’m done fighting the future.

The Truth About Social Media and the Rise of AI

Look, this world didn’t just “suddenly” become AI-driven. It’s been heading this way for years. Social media was the training ground—it harvested the data, refined the algorithms, and built the very infrastructure that powers what we’re using now.

It’s not some shadowy conspiracy. It’s just what happens when tools evolve. So we’ve got two choices:

Let the tools be used on us. Or learn how to use them for us.

Even if you’re not interested in mastering AI, you owe it to yourself to at least understand how it works—because it’s already shaping the world you live in.

My New Workflow (And Why You’ll See Fewer Podcasts)

Here’s the deal: I’ve always wanted to dictate my thoughts and have them turn into polished posts. But I avoided it. Not because I didn’t believe in the process, but because the post-production side of things—editing, formatting, all the little details—burned me out. I didn’t have the time or energy.

Now I do. Because 3PO handles it.

This post? I dictated it into my iPhone’s notepad. Sent the raw transcription to 3PO. And here we are—clean, clear, and still 100% me.

I could’ve fired up a podcast or made a TikTok about this, but here’s the truth: I don’t want to chase platform fame. I’m not building a personality for Instagram. I’m building legacy media for my own sites—Embracing the Spark and Eerie Entertainment. That’s where I’ll show up. That’s where I’ll create.

Final Thought

Fear of change is the oldest fear there is. But every time I’ve leaned into it—whether it was analog-to-digital, cable-to-streaming, or now human-to-AI—I’ve come out better on the other side.

So no, I’m not afraid of AI. I’m done fearing anything that helps me embrace my spark.

And I promise you—if you’re willing to learn just a little, the same can be true for you.
