Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.
It’s funny thinking back on these types of moments. It’s been so long since I’ve been non chameleon like socially, I’ve got to dig deep into the memory bank.
I’ve purged most of those btw.
It’s another super power I possess.
Anyway, digging up the bones the first one that comes to mind was way back in ‘98 when a coworker and I stumbled into what we quickly discovered was a real snooty ass restaurant. The reason I felt so out of place wasn’t the prices (which were ridiculous) it was the air of assholes under one roof.
Back then I was quite the fun loving party guy with more cash in my pocket than good sense in my head. Even then though I knew we walked into a hive of people way deep in credit card debt and mutual fund portfolios.
Mind you, both of us were in suits and ties so we looked the part… sorta. We were smiling and laughing far more than the fake “muh haha” that was emanating from some of the poorly lit tables and corners around the strip mall real estate this joint was located in.
I don’t hate on people “with money” cosplaying as wealthy but if your fine dining is in a strip mall across the street from Circuit City, you’re not going to convince me your high end is as high end as you think it is.
So yeah, we had a beer at the bar out of spite and then left. And up until this very moment, never intended to revisit the joint again.
So again, thanks Jetpack for drawing out a memory from a file that was cstored on a dusty floppy disk in the lower, lower, lower depths of my memory hole.
The beer wasn’t even cold.
Now, Go Play!
