For years, when I had young disc jockeys under my wing, I beat one thing into them before I ever worried about cadence, clocks, backsells, sweepers, or any of the other shit we used to obsess over:
“Have your WHY in place before you crack the mic open.”
Funny thing about advice: eventually you have to take your own.
I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time over the years trying to figure out what AMP Multi Media was supposed to be. A production company? A marketing company? A media company? A toy box? A Halloween company? A place to build weird ideas? A place to make useful things? The answer kept changing because I kept trying to force all of it into one neat little business-school box.
I finally stopped asking the wrong question.
The WHY finally clicked.
I don’t want to spend the rest of my life manufacturing “offers,” feeding funnels, inventing fake urgency, or turning every thought I have into another damned product launch.
I want to discover things, make things, talk about what I learned, help where I can, entertain where I can, and keep moving.
That leaves AMP with a wonderfully simple job:
Useful shit. Entertaining shit. For the right people.
That’s it. No guru costume required.
The useful side: build it well, then let it do its job.
Right now, there are two things I’m comfortable putting in front of people again and again because I believe they solve real problems without requiring me to become a full-time pitchman.
AI FIRST CONTACT
For people who know AI matters but don’t want a course in prompt theater. It starts with the human, gets the machine useful faster, and teaches you to direct the relationship instead of just accepting whatever comes back.
ORIGIN FILE
Your AI has learned useful context about you. ORIGIN FILE gives you a human-controlled way to preserve that context, clean it up, and carry it into another AI or a fresh start without explaining your whole damn life again.
Those two belong together. FIRST CONTACT helps you begin well. ORIGIN FILE helps you continue well.
And, just as important, they are not the beginning of a 47-product catalog.
Once the beta testing is finished, I’ll improve them when real customers show me something that needs improving or when the technology changes enough to matter. Otherwise, I’m going to resist the internet’s favorite disease: endlessly inventing new crap just to have something new to sell.
NOW, GO PLAY!
That philosophy still has its own corner of AMP too. Now, Go Play! exists for the moments when the problem isn’t a lack of information. It’s that you need to stop circling the runway and make something. The tools are there. The playground is open. Go.
The other side is play.
This is where another piece finally became clear to me: Jim’s Toy Box and Eerie Entertainment are not “product lines.”
They’re worlds.
The books, figures, prints, props, games, weird little artifacts and whatever else comes out of them are there because somebody enjoyed the world enough to want a piece of it. That’s a completely different relationship than trying to manufacture a customer.
JIM’S TOY BOX
Toys, nostalgia, collecting, pop culture, experiments, things I find cool and whatever falls out of my imagination along the way. Life’s too short not to play.
EERIE ENTERTAINMENT
Halloween with the expiration date removed. Original characters, stories, radio, games, oddities and a universe that remains, as always, spooky first and kooky second.
And Eerie has a lot of doors.
You don’t have to walk through all of them. That’s kind of the point. Find the one that looks interesting and see what happens.
WDRL AM 1380
A haunted retro radio station broadcasting original comedy, horror, music and assorted weirdness from somewhere just past midnight.
WDRL: DEAD AIR
The story behind the signal: supernatural broadcasting, mad science, old radio mythology and a station that apparently never got the memo that it was supposed to stay dead.
BETTER HAUNTS & HAPPENINGS
Real haunted attractions, events and spooky places worth knowing about when sitting at home simply won’t do.
EERIE WATCH
The screening room: original video, radio presentations, production material and whatever else happens when the camera is rolling and nobody sensible is supervising.
THE EERIE HAUNTED ARCADE
Free browser games that let you step inside the world instead of just watching it. No quarters required. Management makes no promises about the company.
GHOST HUNTER
A playful paranormal field unit that turns the device already in your hand into a ghost-hunting toy. Is it real? Probably not. Are you still going to check behind yourself? Probably.
BOOKS, COLLECTIBLES & MERCH
Books, props, characters, prints, collectibles and artifacts from the universe. Made for the fans—not manufactured to create them.
So what changes now?
On the surface, maybe not much.
I’m still going to talk about AI when I discover something interesting. I’m still going to talk about toys, media, creativity, broadcasting, business, weird technology, things that worked, things that blew up in my face, and whatever rabbit hole I happened to fall into that day.
The difference is I no longer feel obligated to turn every one of those conversations into a funnel.
If something I’m talking about honestly connects with something I built, I’ll point you toward it. If it doesn’t, I’m not going to shoehorn in a pitch because some marketing book says I’m supposed to.
Hell, one of the advantages of owning the things I actually believe in is that when I need a sponsor, I can sponsor myself.
That may be the biggest shift of all.
I don’t need AMP to keep inventing things for me to sell.
I need AMP to give me enough structure and fuel that I’m free to keep creating.
That’s my WHY.
Make useful things when something needs solving.
Make entertaining things because the world could use a little more imagination.
Share what I learn along the way.
Then put it out there and let grown adults decide for themselves.
Here it is. Take what helps you. Enjoy what entertains you. Go do something great with it.
If it’s not for you, that’s okay too.
You can either stay and play or don’t. 😉
