DAY 23 — HAUNTED FORESTS

The woods don’t need our help being creepy.
Daylight disappears faster under trees. Sounds come from directions you can’t see. Trails bend. Familiar landmarks vanish. And once darkness settles in, every snapping twig receives an immediate promotion from “squirrel” to “possible problem.”
Forests have been home to monsters, witches, spirits and lost travelers for as long as people have told stories. It makes sense. Civilization ends at the tree line, and beyond it the world stops arranging itself for our convenience.
Most noises in the woods have perfectly natural owners. That knowledge is comforting right up until you hear the one you can’t identify.
