ORIGIN FILE started with a sentence I kept hearing in my own head:
I do not want to explain all this stuff again.
If you have used AI seriously for any length of time, you probably know the feeling.
You spend weeks or months working with a system. It learns how you think. It knows your projects, terminology, preferences, priorities, what has already been tried and what absolutely should not be suggested again.
Then you move to another AI platform, open a clean account or start from a fresh environment and suddenly you are back at hello.
That struck me as ridiculous.
Not because every AI should magically know everything about me.
Because the useful working context had been created through my time, my corrections, my decisions and my experience. I wanted a way to carry that forward.
That became ORIGIN FILE.
This idea probably makes sense because of where I came from
I have spent most of my working life in media, marketing, broadcasting, retail management and production.
Those worlds teach you to respect continuity.
A radio station has logs, clocks, imaging libraries and format rules. A video project has source files, edits, graphics and project folders. A promotion has briefs, assets, contacts and history. A business has procedures, customer knowledge and institutional memory.
You do not throw all of that away every time you change computers.
So why were we casually accepting that behavior with AI?
That was the itch.
The product is deliberately boring in one important way
ORIGIN FILE is not another app you have to subscribe to.
I do not need your file. AMP does not need to hold your identity hostage. There is no proprietary little box you have to keep paying me to access.
The whole point is portability.
The user owns the package.
That principle became more important the deeper I got into testing it.
I tested the concept across different AI systems. I looked at what transferred well, what did not, what needed human approval and where a supposedly smart system could misunderstand the difference between a fact, a preference and a temporary situation.
That is why ORIGIN FILE is not simply “dump everything the AI knows about me into a document.”
The human stays authoritative.
You approve. You edit. You reject. You archive. You decide what travels with you.
That is not a small distinction.
The bigger idea is human-side infrastructure
Most of the AI industry is understandably focused on making the models smarter.
I am becoming increasingly interested in the other side of the equation.
What does the human need?
How do we keep continuity? How do we move between tools? How do we maintain control? How do we keep useful context without confusing it with some science-fiction idea that we copied a person’s identity into a machine?
Those questions are only going to get bigger.
ORIGIN FILE is my first serious attempt at answering one of them.
And once again, the reason I am writing about it is not simply to sell you mine.
I want people to notice the opportunity sitting underneath it.
You have spent years learning things the hard way. You have workflows, shortcuts, judgment calls and knowledge that live mostly inside your head.
AI gives us new ways to turn that experience into tools.
Not tools that replace people.
Tools that let people carry more of what they have already earned.
That is the future I am interested in helping build.
