Most sensible people hear a crash in an empty building and head toward the exit.
Paranormal investigators say, “Did you hear that?” and walk toward it carrying six cameras and a meter with blinking lights. I respect the commitment.
Ghost hunting has changed enormously from séances and psychical societies to digital recorders, thermal cameras and enough rechargeable batteries to power a small county. The tools are interesting, but the most important equipment remains curiosity and skepticism in roughly equal amounts.
Because every unexplained noise isn’t Uncle Fred. Buildings creak. Radios interfere. People mishear things. Cameras do weird things in low light. Eliminating the ordinary doesn’t kill the fun—it makes whatever remains more interesting.
