Write Your Book With AI (KDP) Companion

Source: AMP Book Production Workflow and prior print-book production work

Participant promise: Help participants plan and begin an original, author-controlled book and understand the path to a KDP-ready package.

Same method for the whole room, but each person picks their own subject. Smartphone first; desktop and laptop friendly. Free attendance; optional contributions or separate sponsorships.

The workshop flow

1. Define Your Book

Choose nonfiction, fiction, memoir, children’s book or another appropriate format. Set intended reader, purpose and realistic scope.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Interview me one question at a time to identify the book I want to write, its intended reader and what I can personally contribute. Do not invent my life experience or present generated text as my personal testimony.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

2. Protect the Author’s Voice

Collect original stories, notes and existing drafts; identify the source of truth and what is missing.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Help me inventory my notes, recordings and drafts. Separate my original writing from AI suggestions. Flag contradictions and ask me to approve the manuscript structure.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

3. Outline and Write a Real Sample

Build a useful outline, then draft or revise one short sample with clear human input and editorial control.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Based only on the material I provide, propose an outline with chapter or page goals. Ask me to pick one part to work on, offer feedback and a revision plan, and let me approve any new language.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

4. Edit, Verify, and Clear Rights

Review clarity, accuracy, attribution, permissions, originality and AI-generated elements; don’t pretend AI can certify originality.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Give me an editorial and rights checklist for this specific book. Flag factual claims requiring sources, copyrighted excerpts, image permissions, privacy concerns and any AI-generated material I need to disclose under current KDP rules. Don’t invent citations.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

5. Prepare KDP Files

Explain manuscript and cover requirements by chosen edition and trim size; validate current specifications against KDP’s official guidance before uploading.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Ask whether I am making an ebook, paperback or hardcover, then outline the current KDP formatting, cover, bleed, margins, image quality and preview checks I must perform. Mark any platform specifications that require checking on the official KDP website.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

6. Publish by Human Decision

Review title, description, keywords, categories, preview, proof, pricing, disclosures and final sign-off.

AI conversation starter — expand and copy

Build a pre-publication checklist and ask me to confirm each item. Never upload, price, publish, or claim my book is approved without my explicit authorization and evidence of completion.

Jim’s checkpoint: Stop the room, compare approaches, invite questions, challenge default AI answers and return the decisions to each participant.

What leaves the room

A book concept, approved outline, author-written or author-approved sample, and a personalized KDP production checklist. Complete publication is a later milestone, not a one-session guarantee.

Jim’s role

Jim teaches storytelling, ownership, reader engagement and editorial judgment, drawing on his publishing experience. AI assists with planning, continuity, editing and technical checklists.

Lab boundaries

New workshop concept—requires format testing and up-to-date KDP policy verification before a live class. Writing on a phone is supported; desktop may be preferable for final layout and proofing.

Working scratch pad. Not yet field-tested. Recording or testimonials require participant consent. AI First Contact remains the active launch priority.
