This whole book is gratitude.
Not just for the toys—but for what they taught me.
Because once you start seeing totems as teachers, you realize how much they’ve already shaped you… and how much more they still can.
When I look at the figures on my desk, I don’t see “collectibles.” I see curriculum.
Presence—because a figure stands still and doesn’t flinch.
Patience—because the hunt takes time and stories unfold.
Adaptability—because you can swap parts, repaint, remix, and create a whole new narrative.
That’s not childish. That’s creative training.
And when I track my projects—my shows, my writing, my workshops, my entire ecosystem—I can trace a clean line back to toys I once held. Totems kept me lit when life tried to dim me. They reminded me who I was when I felt lost.
And you have that too.
You have emotional memory baked into objects you thought were “just stuff.” But now you know better: they’re portals. Signals. Teachers.
And when you choose to work with them consciously—when you let the totems speak—you stop living on autopilot.
You start living authored.
Not because you outgrew wonder… but because you finally learned how to carry it with weight.
